Dinosaur Book-tivity: “Dinosaur Bath”
Looking for a way to incorporate books with fun learning through play? These dinosaur themed books and activity or as I like to call it a “book-tivity” will be perfect for you!
These two great dinosaur stories are perfect for pairing with this fun “dinosaur bath” activity that went wonderfully after reading the books.
Books:
- Dini Dinosaur by Karen Beaumont
- I’m a Dirty Dinosaur by Janeen Brian
Both of these stories feature cute dinosaur characters who get “dirty” and need to be cleaned. Dini Dinosaur makes a great before bath and bedtime story and I’m a Dirty Dinosaur leads to great discussion and practice with parts of the body.
Reading one or both of these stories before completing the “dinosaur bath” activity will make it so much more fun! Dinosaur toys will need to get dirty like the dinosaurs in this book and then will need to be made clean in this dinosaur bath!
When we completed this activity together I tried to make references back to the book and would say things like (while making the dinosaurs dirty in the shaving cream) “Oh no! The dinosaurs are all dirty just like the characters in the book.” “Make sure to make the dinosaur’s head dirty, legs dirty, etc, with shaving cream.) This helped to practice body parts and add a little more learning into the play. (Things I would say after the dinosaurs were completely covered in shaving cream.) “These dinosaurs are all messy. What do you think we should do next?” These questions helped to facilitate a little more learning and language development as we played!
Dinosaur Bath Activity
Supplies needed:
- Two buckets or bowls
- Dinosaur toys
- Shaving cream
- Optional sponge, brush or wash cloth
Simply fill a bucket with water for the bath and in a separate bowl place the dinosaur toys and add shaving cream! Have kiddos make them dirty and messy with the shaving cream and then give them a bath! Use brushes or sponges to help make them clean!
This dinosaur book-tivity is sure to bring reading excitement and learning through play fun to the dinosaur lovers in your life!
